Dreaming wakeful, alive

and holding you, clinging to

every last piece before

it slips away into the

Boxes opened, shut

inside unknown mysteries

screeching and calling,

to open it, release the cries

a desire, a longing

to see what will happen.

Eyes in the shadows gleam

watching the moving figures

come in and out of the building,

the sun blinding, waiting

for an opportunity.

photo of empty gravel road

Roads traveled, worn down

into rubble. A missed step

a wrong turn and a fall

into the gravel.

Electric kettle sits

pale and full to the spout

with water. Insert prongs into

socket. Click button. Bubbles rumbling

toil, warm water churning.

A high pitched screech, a jet of steam.
